PINE VIEW SCHOOL Sarasota County
Pine View School is a public, college prep school in Osprey and is Florida’s only school for gifted children that lasts from elementary school all the way through high school. It has received the U.S. Department of Education’s Blue Ribbon School Award of Excellence and consistently ranks as one of the nation’s best schools. The campus spreads across 74 acres with a dozen buildings situated around a central lawn, all of which are connected by open-air porticos. It was modeled over Thomas Jefferson’s “academical village” at the University of Virginia and definitely retains a collegiate atmosphere.
Two of my daughters attended Pine View School and our family was extremely satisfied with the
education experience they received. Classes are either honors or Advanced Placement and the
school’s mission is to nurture a passion for intellectual curiosity. We found this to be true,
although the school was a great fit for our oldest daughter, but not the best fit for our middle daughter. Every child is different so read on to learn more about Pine View to determine whether it’s right for your child.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT PINE VIEW SCHOOL
Most teachers have been at the school for years and teach there until they retire, so you can count on passionate staff working with your children. Another factor that sets Pine View apart from other schools is the high expectations of parents in addition to the students. Of course, every parent tries to be an active part of their child’s education, but this commitment is taken very seriously at Pine View. If you don’t have the time or energy to be actively involved at the school, it might not be the right choice for your family. If your child qualifies and you’re committed to being active in their education, then I highly recommend Pine View School. Feel free to reach out with any questions, or for a recommendation on a local psychologist for gifted testing.
